The ILWU Library is maintained in the Honolulu office of ILWU Local 142. It provides reference services on all aspects of union work, organizes and maintains the records of Local 142, and preserves historical records of the ILWU in Hawaii. ILWU titled officers, international representatives, division representatives, business agents, program and clerical staff, and current Local 142 members may use the Library, as authorized per their needs.
The library holds the permanent records of our union, dating from the mid-1930s to present. Among these important records are collective bargaining agreements, correspondence, minutes of meetings, negotiation notes, publications, bulletins, leaflets, and photographs. There are also audio-visual recordings and transcripts, artwork, scrapbooks, pins, and memorabilia from union events.
