The past three years have made a significant difference in my life and I’ve had experiences I know I would not have encountered had it not been for my role in the ILWU, in particular, as a business agent for Local 142. The economic situation and its uncertainties heavily influence our decision making with difficulties and hardships we face. However, we can still count on the knowledge that we belong to a democratic organization that will continue to be with us during our time of need. As a business agent, I provide assistance to our membership, but it is you, the membership, that I have learned most from. You are the very core of our organization. And so I’d like to thank you and my colleagues for giving me the opportunity to serve you and for your confidence in me. I look forward to the next three years and will strive to continue to work for you and to serve you.
