PAC season kicks off with an endorsement of Green for Governor
The primary elections are not until August, but ILWU Local 142 has already been taking decisive action on the PAC front. Every year is an important year when it comes to political action, and it is especially true this election cycle, where reapportionment has put all legislative seats up for election (51 state representatives and 25 state senators). The ILWU Political Action team has already conducted interviews for the majority of candidates in statewide and county races to determine whether or not they will be considered for our endorsement overall (a full list of endorsements will be printed in the May/June issue of the Voice).
Our typical rank-and-file member does not have time permitting in their work schedule to interview numerous candidates all day, let alone take part in the legislative process during the short session that runs only from January- May. This is why we have an ILWU Political Action team. This unified team identifies key legislation that can harm or help our membership, writes and gives testimony at hear- ings, meets with elected officials, and keeps track of each legislator's voting record. The ILWU Political Action team has been doing all of this and more. A rundown of how our priority bills fared will be printed in the next issue of the Voice, when the legislative session has finished.
The governor's race is particularly critical, and our PAC team has already started working hard on his campaign. If you want to get involved in this,
or any of our other PAC efforts, please contact the PAC coordinator at your Division!2022 Election At-A-Glance
