My Name is John Simpliciano I'm a member of ILWU local 142 since 2004. I've been Active with the Union since 2015 as a temporary Business Agent. In 2019 I was brought in fulltime In Maui Division to assist in Division Organizing and simultaneously assigned as Political Action Chair for Maui Division. My work shifted when the pandemic hit in March 2020. Maui Division was first to carry out members resource center and assist with unemployment claims. Lanai was hit hard the most when hotel's temporarily shut down because members had limited access to DLIR. I was sent to lanai 4 consecutive weeks along with the county workers to ensure the members had benefits to continue with their daily lives. I stand proud today to have been part of the team that assisted thousands of our members in unemployment Knowing it was the only source of income for my brothers and sisters in ILWU Local 142. It's why I stand before you today asking for your support to elect me as your business agent for Maui Division so I can continue the work in getting the benefits that you deserve and to ensure your interests are protected. Aloha, I served as your Business Agent for over 10 years in the past, and I humbly request your vote in this upcoming election so I may once again serve as your Business Agent. I have been an ILWU member for over 38 years, and I am dedicated to improving the quality of life and working conditions for you and the community. I have worked at Makena Beach Golf Resort and Grand Wailea Resort & Spa as a Shop-Steward, Unit-Editor, Grievance-Chair, Unit-Chair, and Vice-Chair. I was a Union spokesman in first contract negotiations and served as Chair of Maui Salary Commission, Maui County Board-of-Variances and Appeals, and various committees for Maui Economic Opportunity. I also worked for the Liquor Commission. As such, I have experience in workman's compensation, handling grievances, and organizing new units. I have been and I will be part of the leadership, bringing about the changes you want by being the voice for social, economic, and political progress for members, their families, and the community. ALOHA Union Ohana. Division Trustee Candidate, LOURDES R. RIVERA from Unit 2505 Westin Maui Resort and Spa. I'm currently the Unit Treasurer, Negotiating Committee member 2004 to present, appointed Division Trustee May, 2021 and nominated/ elected as ILWU International Executive Board Member representing TOURISM last June, 2021. I am PROUD and grateful Union member for 31 years. My knowledge, experiences,capabilities and education extend to Labor Institute, Local Seminars/Trainings. I was fortunate as DELEGATE to the 25th Annual Western Regional Summer Institute for Union Women which I expanded my vision, love and passion for this Union. My active participation/involvement in Political Action and Democratic Party has led me to serve as Deputy Voter Registrar in 2004. Thus opening the door to be consistent delegate for Hawaii Democratic Party Convention and Caucus. My experience and hard work in organizing started from 2006 to date. Listening and helping every member is my sincere interest and commitment. To be a DIVISION TRUSTEE there's a challenging responsibilities. Brothers and Sisters of ILWU Local 142, yours truly is DIGNO MAURICIO DURAN CASTILLO from the biggest unit in State of Hawaii - UNIT 2520 GRAND WAILEA A WALDORF ASTORIA RESORT. I'm proud union member for 17 years and even my son MARIANO, my brother CATALINO and other family members and relatives. Union VALUES runs in our family, my great Uncles were SAKADA's sugarcane plantation workers and they thought us the importance of UNION and its BENEFITS to working class employees including our families. We in our families get better conditions of lives economically because of UNION, its benefits are amazing and awesome that makes the younger generation in our family have a blissful lives NOW.
