Division Director Candidate
William “Willie” Kennison
In the past, I served as a Division Representative, Business Agent and am presently the Maui Division Director. However, the past three years have been the most trying times of my 30 years as a full-time officer of the ILWU Local 142. Due to recent economic conditions, the union gave relief to some of the companies that we represent. However, we made sure that any assistance we gave to these companies will be restored to our members over the life of the agreement.
It was with the help of the Unit Leadership and Business Agents that we have been able to negotiate improvements in a majority of the Collective Bargaining Agreements with companies in Maui and Lanai. We were also able to have some non-resort companies join the General Health and Welfare Trust Fund and enroll more hotels into the Health and Welfare Trust Fund. In addition to this, we continue to assist members with their workers compensation, Social Security and pension benefits.
Our goal is to ensure that in the long run, we save our members jobs to so we all have a bright future to look forward too.

“WORKING FOR YOU AND WORKING TOGETHER”
ALOHA, I’m Stephen “Steve” Castro Sr. I have been an ILWU member since 1979. I worked for the Kapalua Bay Hotel for 28 years and have served in the capacity as a steward, unit editor, grievance chairman, vice chairman and chairman. I have participated in hotel negotiations, served as a member of the local executive board, and attended several hotel and labor institutes focusing on grievance and advance grievance handling, unit mobilization, internal organization, labor law awareness, steward and unit officer leadership, contract negotiations, unemployment and workers compensation.
My focus is unit solidarity by improving unit leadership structure from stewards to officers. My ultimate goal is to keep our members informed of their rights through unit news bulletins and membership meetings. It is also my desire to continue to serve our membership to the best of my abilities while enforcing the collective bargaining agreements.
During these economic times, we are faced with many challenges but with the support of the unit leadership and members working and moving forward together, all things are possible.
I humbly ask for your support and look forward to continue serving you.
