Aloha!
I became a member of the ILWU in March of 2001 and over the years I have served in many positions within my unit. I was a shop steward, then the unit Secretary/ Treasurer and finally I became the unit Chair. When I became a unit officer my business agent started to get me to be more active and become educated on how the union works and the benefits of being a member of the ILWU. I was fortunate enough to attend the Summer Institute for Union women in 2017 and 2019, and I also
attended the Labor Institute in 2018 and learned more about unions and how choosing the right leadership can be either a benefit to its members or can damage the entire organization. That is why I became a business agent, I wanted to be a benefit to my members and focus on helping them while educating them along the way. It doesn't matter who you vote for just make sure that the candidate you vote for will benefit you and your fellow union brothers and sister.
Aloha my sisters and brothers of this great union ILWU LOCAL 142. My name is Jose Miramontes. I am running for business agent of the Oahu division. This past triennium has been a challenge for our membership and our Union and units alike. The membership is dealing with being laid off for more than a year with members losing seniority and jobs being eliminated and business not coming back to "pre-Covid" conditions. The ILWU leadership and Division has been working tirelessly to make sure the companies do not use "Covid-19" as a reason to reset and start another agenda and find ways to not follow the contract. In the next triennium I will continue to enforce the contract and get our essential workforce to get back to pre "covid -19 conditions' 'this is not an easy task for anyone to do by themselves but with the help of our leadership and rank and file to get these contracts and policies look out for the best interest of our membership I ask for your support during these trying times. Aloha and Be Great ILWU Local 142!!

Aloha Sisters & Brothers, My name is Denise Sherman, I come from Hawaii Pacific Health unit 4420-08. I've been a member of ILWU Local 142 since August 2005. I became more involved with the union after Kaipiolani and Straub Hospital merged in 2006. I first held the position as our unit Secretary-Treasurer for several years, before becoming Unit Chair in 2013. Best part of being part of ILWU Local 142 besides working side by side with my members is meeting members from different units, whom I call my Sisters and Brothers. I'm running for At Large -Delegate, because I want to be able to represent all trades for Oahu Division.
In solidarity, Denise
