Business Agent Candidate
Karl Lindo

First, I want to thank all of the Unit Leadership for your dedication and hard work this past three years in helping take care of our members.

Before I became a Business Agent in 1995, I was a member at Hawaiian Waikiki Beach Hotel from 1989 and served as the Unit Vice-Chair and Chair. Then I was an Organizer for the union trying to help nonunion workers join the ILWU as members.

As a Business Agent for 21 years, there have been many challenges in representing our members. Learning how to negotiate contracts, filing grievances, helping workers address problems to hopefully improve and better their lives at their jobs.

For me, the most important part is sharing and passing on the knowledge that I’ve learned by educating our Unit Leaders, Stewards and Members how to build a strong Union at their workplace and what the ILWU stands for. You are the difference in how strong we are as a Union and how effective we are as Business Agents.

All of you have been a very important part of what I have been able to accomplish in all my years representing our members as a Business Agent.

Mahalo for your support.

Business Agent Candidate
Jose Miramontes Jr.

Aloha my sisters and brothers of this great Union it has been humbling and a honor to represent all of you for the past 3 years. These past 3 years has been a struggle for some of you but with perseverance and dedication to the cause we have overcome our obstacles. With working with Pensioners and Chair of Political Action program I have understood the fight isn’t over to protect our Pensioners and laws that try take benefits from the working class. I pledge to you to protect those benefits when negotiating contracts on your behalf.

As involved with organizing the Unorganized we have seen the struggles that non- union members have to endear. I have been representing members since 2000 as shop steward in my own unit to present as your Business Agent. As a second generation union member with a background in warehouse and distribution I can quickly adapt to any situation that may arise within our division

I am humbly asking for your continued support for the next 3 years as your Business Agent for Oahu Division.

Experienced, Qualified, Dedicated. What I believe in and What I will work for

The rank and file members should run our Union. This means our elected union leaders should take their direction from the membership and not act like bosses. As your business agent I will listen to your concerns, will do my best to represent you and work hard to keep our Union united. We need more democracy in our Union, not less. If you don’t get more involved by participating in your Union programs, then you risk the chance to lose the labor benefits we all enjoy today.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you, the rank and file, for your support the past 21 years. It has been a great honor to serve as a Full-Time Officer. Again, I ask for your continued support in this up-coming election. This is your Union – a democratic union. Your voice will be heard only if you vote and get involved.

I ask you to give serious consideration to the other candidates who will work together in the interest of our membership, and who are honest and dedicated to continue the rank and file control.
