Karl Lindo

My name is Karl Lindo and I am running for re-election for Business Agent on Oahu. I have been a member since 1989 as a hotel worker from Hawaiian Waikiki Beach Hotel and served the unit as a Vice Chair and Unit Chair.

Prior to becoming a Business Agent in 1995, I was a Organizer for the union trying to help non-union workers join the ILWU as members. As a Business Agent for the last 18 years, there have been many challenges in servicing our members. Negotiating contracts, filing grievances, helping workers address problems and issues to hopefully improve and better their lives at their jobs.

A very important part of being a Business Agent is teaching our members how to build a strong Union at their workplace. The Unit Leaders and Members are the difference in how strong we are as a Union and how effective we are as Business Agents. You are a very important part of what I have been able to accomplish in all my years representing you.

Jose M. Miramontes

Aloha my sisters and brothers of this great union ILWU LOCAL 142. My name is Jose Miramontes I am running for business agent of the Oahu division. For some of you I’m a new face but I’m no stranger to the ILWU since 1997 I’ve been with my unit 4405 Hawaii Logistics formerly known as (Fleming Foods) Starting out as a shop steward and working my way up as Vice chair and sitting on two negotiating committees and also sitting on the labor management committee I have faced challenges dealing with new management and getting results.Created a family day picnic with my unit to build a stronger unity among our brothers and sisters. My others positions held with the local was honored to have recently represented the general trades in the International Convention in San Diego (2012), and been part of 4 conventions and sat on constitutions committee. this past year was recently assingned as temp Buisness Agent and I also sit on the political action committee as the co-chair and been active with organizing the unorganized that has thought me a lot about what a union contract means and to uphold the contract.
