The Hawaii Division held their annual Recognition Night festivities on February 11 at the beautifully decorated Union Hall. Members and retirees gathered for an evening of celebration and thanks. A thirty-five year tradition for the Big Island, the evening featured retirees, Local President Isaac Fiesta and Hawaii Division Director Richard Baker, both of whom are retiring this year.

Maui Division recognized Star Medeiros posthumously for over 30 years of service to the ILWU at its March 21, 2012 Division Executive Board meeting. Star was the Chair at Unit 2505 - The Westin Maui, and Westin Maui members joined Wesley to remember Star before a crowd of over 70 Maui leaders. (L-r) Zenaida Barut, Mila Valasco, Heidi Michel-Bunyard, Business Agent Jerrybeth De Mello, Wesley Medeiros, Business Agent Teddy Espeleta, Lourdes Rivera, and Alex Ajolo. Three other Westin members were also recognized that evening: Rivera for her outstanding unit leadership, and Michel-Bunyard and Lolohea Hong (not pictured) for being outstanding unit members.

Active Inspirational Leader of 2011, Mary Ann Abregano shares a moment with Oahu Division Business Agent Karl Lindo. Serving since the 1980’s, Lindo shared with event goers of Mary’s long involvement and historical knowledge of contract negotiations with Foodland.

Retired Inspirational Leader of 2011, Kauai Ohelo shares a smile with Oahu Division Business Agent Shane Ambrose. Kauai who worked at Dole Cannery, is known as a vocal participant in meetings and a musician who shares aloha at gatherings.
