What does “Status Quo” mean?
In union organizing, when someone refers to status quo, he or she is usually referring to the current benefits and working conditions that should remain in place until a first contract is negotiated. Hawaii State law makes it illegal for the company to change the status quo.

When is “Status Quo” in Effect?
Status Quo takes effect when the ILWU submits the signed authorization cards to the HLRB.

If management tries to harass, intimidate, or threaten workers to keep you from joining or supporting the union, the law provides that the HLRB can fine the employer up to $10,000 every time this is done.
