On Juneteenth weekend, more than 70 rank-and-file ILWU members joined with 4,000 other labor activists at the Labor Notes conference in Chicago. The event featured speakers, workshops, trainings, and opportunities for union members and activists to share tactics, strategies, and build the relationships that are central to strengthening the labor movement.
New York Times labor reporter Noam Scheiber characterized the conference as "the epicenter of the U.S. labor movement."
HONOLULU - Education never stops at ILWU, even for our Full-Time Officers. The sign of a good leader is someone who never stops learning, and 25 of our Full-Time Officers (Titled Officers, Division Directors and Business Agents), whether they were just elected to office or a seasoned veteran in union leadership service, attended the ILWU Honolulu Hall from September 12-16, 2022 for a rigorous week of learning. The last time a Full-Time Officer (FTO) Conference was held was in 2014.
Your ILWU Political Action Committee (PAC) looks carefully not just at the candidates running for office, but also at county charter amendments and makes voting recommendations on them.
Golf Tournament hosted at Pearl Country Club
AIEA-Over 30 members and their families from all divisions gathered on Oahu at ILWU Unit 4421 Pearl Country Club on September 11, 2022 for the 69th ILWU Local 142 Golf Tournament. The last time we held our Statewide Golf Tournament was in 2018, so the camaraderie was long overdue and that much more appreciated.

HONOLULU - Gates at the Waikiki Shell did not open until 3:30 p.m. for the Labor Unity Picnic on September 4, 2022, but hundreds of people from over 20 different labor unions were already lined up with their beach chairs outside the venue hours before. This popular event was put on hold for the past few years because of COVID, but made a strong comeback this past September with over 7,000 union members and families in attendance
