HILO The ILWU Statewide Sports Program finally made a comeback after being put on hold for three years due to COVID precautions. The 40th Statewide Basketball Tournament was held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Andrew's Gym in Hilo. Three teams showed up to compete: a team from the Big Island "Da Crew," a team from Kauai, and a team from Hawaii Stevedores, Inc. (HSI) from Oahu.

March 31 was a bright, spring day in Seattle. ILWU members at the Local 19 Hall were buzzing in anticipation of a new and innovative event organized by the Local 19 Education Committee celebrating women on the waterfront.

ILWU participation ramps up in big election year

It's election season! And not just any election season. This year, there are several heavy-hitting leadership roles up for vote: governor, lieutenant governor, mayoral races on Kauai and Maui, and three of Hawaii's four congressional seats.

"Open Endorsement" means that the union has no recommendation for any candidate and members may vote as they choose.

New leadership underway at ILWU Local 142

The first Local Executive Committee (LEC) meeting of the year happened on January 10, 2022. The Local Executive Committee is comprised of the three Local Titled Officers and the five Division Directors. They meet on a monthly basis as a group to provide updates on contract negotiations and grievance handling. These meetings are still being conducted via Zoom.
